Inside The Doctor's new home... and there's more room than the Tardis

New acquisition: Doctor who star Matt Smith has purchased this two-bedroom apartment in North London, and like the Tardis, from the outside looks can be deceivingNew acquisition: Doctor who star Matt Smith has purchased this two-bedroom apartment in North London, and like the Tardis, from the outside looks can be deceiving

He famously travels in a blue police box with more space inside than outside.

So when it came to buying a new home it’s no surprise Doctor Who star Matt Smith needed a pad with the right dimensions.

From the outside, his flat looks like a church. But just like the Tardis, appearances can be deceptive. The narrow windows give no clue to the scale inside. The two-bedroom apartment has a 31ft lounge and a triple-height vaulted ceiling.

It is the 27-year-old’s first property purchase since he became the 11th and youngest-ever actor to play the Doctor. The North London flat is being sold by hip-hop star DJ Yoda – real name Duncan Beiny – who accepted an offer above the £775,000 asking price. Estate agents call it a ‘magnificent property’ boasting ‘beautiful stained-glass windows’.

Infrared Battle: Remote Control Daleks

Doctor Who: Infrared Battle: Remote Control Dalek: Red Dalek Drone (Product Image) DroneDoctor Who: Infrared Battle: Remote Control Dalek: Blue Dalek Strategist (Product Image) Strategist

Many Years ago, the Daleks sent out thousands of egg-shaped Progenitors containing the genetic coding of the race, so that new Daleks could be created whenever necessary. One of these Progenitors was found in war-torn England during the Second World War and transported to a Dalek ship.

However, because the Daleks that found it had been genetically modified by their creator Davros, using his own DNA, the Progenitor did not acknowledge them as pure Daleks, until the Doctor identified them as such and the Progenitor created a new race of powerful Daleks as a result. Amongst these Daleks were the Red Drones and Blue Strategists.

This fully functional radio controlled Dalek has full 360 degree movement control and a built-in infrared combat system which allows you to use two Daleks to battle against each other. Features also include flashing lights, speech a poseable gun and arm. Infrared battle with two Daleks requires two Daleks of different control frequencies (27 MHz & 40 MHz).

Two to collect; One Dalek supplied.

Requires 6 x AAA batteries.

Eccleston "wasn't comfortable" on 'Who'

The Ninth Doctor from Doctor WhoChristopher Eccleston has revealed that he left Doctor Who because he was unhappy with the working environment.

Eccleston joined the show when it was rebooted in 2005 but left after one series.

In an interview with the Radio Times, the actor explained that he "wasn't comfortable" on the programme and added: "I think it's more important to be your own man than be successful, so I left."

He continued: "I was open-minded but I decided after my experience on the first series that I didn't want to do any more. I didn't enjoy the environment and the culture that we, the cast and crew, had to work in. I thought if I stay in this job, I'm going to have to blind myself to certain things that I thought were wrong."

However, Eccleston explained that he is proud of his time on the show and claimed that "the most important thing" is that he was able to play The Doctor.

"I really feel that because it kind of broke the mould and it helped to reinvent it," he said. "I'm very proud of it."

Eccleston will appear as John Lennon in BBC Four drama Lennon Naked later this month. By
