Doctor Who: Summer Falls – New Ebook With Link To “The Bells Of Saint John”

Following the success of The Angel’s Kiss: A Melody Malone Mystery – an ebook based on the fictional novel, as seen in Doctor Who “The Angels Take Manhattan” – BBC Books is following it up with the real world release of another fictional piece of fiction, this time based on a book seen in “The Bells Of Saint John”.

Doctor Who: Summer Falls by Amelia Williams (so, is that a joint pen name or did Amy finally take Rory’s name?) is published by BBC Books on Thursday 4 April, priced £1.99.
Here’s a teasing excerpt:

“Clara: ‘What chapter you on?’
“Artie: ‘Ten.’
“Clara: ‘Eleven’s the best. You’ll cry your eyes out… The good kind of crying….’”
“When summer falls, the Lord of Winter will arise…”

And the summary: In the seaside village of Watchcombe, young Kate is determined to make the most of her last week of summer holiday. But when she discovers a mysterious painting entitled ‘The Lord of Winter’ in a charity shop, it leads her on an adventure she never could have planned. Kate soon realises the old seacape, painted long ago by an eccentric local artist, is actually a puzzle. And with the help of some bizarre new acquaintances – including a museum curator’s magical cat, a miserable neighbour, and a lonely boy – she plans on solving it.

And then, one morning Kate wakes up to a world changed forever. For the Lord of Winter is coming – and Kate has a very important decision to make.

Summer Falls, a book written by Amelia Williams (yeah, right),  is featured at the beginning of “The Bells of St John”, being read by Artie, one of the children taken care of by Clara (as played by Jenna-Louise Coleman).

All in the pioctures

Four and half minutes in to The Bells Of St John, the eagled eyed Doctor Who fans would have spotted this little nugget...

Clara takes this book off Artie the son of a family friend whom she is the nanny of (a role simlar to that of herself in 19th Century England). As you can see, the book is written by the Doctor's former companion Amelia (Amy) Williams (Pond).

Clara asks Artie: "What chapter are you on?"
Artie:"Ten"
Clara:"Eleven is the best. You'll cry your eyes out"

Is that a hint that something sad is going to happen to the Doctor? With him being in his eleventh body? Does the title of the book SUMMER FALLS imply what is to come? The fall of the eleventh perhaps? Knowing now how the Moff writes Doctor Who;I think we're in for an emotional rollercoaster over these coming weeks.

Could we be seeing more of these type of conections with Amy and Rory too throughout the remaining half of Series 33 (7)? In the Christmas episode The Snowmen, Clara had to choose just one owrd to attract the attention of the Doctor; and that word was POND. We just have to watch the mystery unravel and discover the truth to Clara Oswald in episode 13.

David Tennant And Billie Piper to return for the 50th

David Tennant and Billie Piper will appear in the 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who, the BBC has confirmed.

David Tennant & Billie Piper in 'Fear Her' (2006)

Tennant was the 10th Doctor and Piper played his on-screen companion Rose Tyler in the BBC One show.

Filming on the show, which will also star John Hurt, will start next week.
Tennant's successor, Matt Smith - also in the special with his new assistant played by Jenna-Louise Coleman - says fans "will not be disappointed" by the 3D show, due to air on 23 November.

Tennant and Piper have long been rumoured to be making a return for the special, which is being written by the show's executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat.

In January, Piper, appearing on the Graham Norton show, denied she would be appearing.
"I wasn't asked, no," she said.

"I think Matt Smith may have said, in passing or in jest, it would be nice.

Jenna-Louise Coleman and Matt Smith in The Bells of Saint John
The 2013 run of Doctor Who returns on Saturday

"I think maybe he said that and then it became something quite different, but no."
Smith has said the show "manages to pay homage to everything - and look forward".
"I read it and I clapped at the end. I think it's hilarious, it's epic and it's vast," he said.
Moffat, meanwhile, has said he took special care to protect the secrets of the story.
"One length I've gone to which is a really good security measure - I make sure I don't get a script, because I will lose it," he said.

"I forbid people to hand me one. It's on my computer under lock and key."
The first story of Doctor Who's 2013 run, The Bells of Saint John - described by Moffat as a "proper London thriller" - will be screened later.

Viewers will see the Doctor and new companion, Clara, played by Coleman, battling an evil entity in the world's wi-fi networks.

Actor Matt Smith talks about modern Doctor Who Aliens
Future episodes of the show, which is filmed in Cardiff, see the return of the Cybermen and old enemy the Ice Warriors, who last appeared during the Jon Pertwee era in 1974.
Tennant starred in Doctor Who from 2005 to 2010 while Piper first appeared in 2005 opposite Christopher Eccleston, who played the ninth Doctor.

She left the show in 2006 but returned for a number of episodes in 2008 as well as for Tennant's final episode, broadcast on 1 January 2010.

Also confirmed to join the cast is John Hurt who will also co-star in the 3D anniversary special that will form part of blockbuster celebrations, set to take over the BBC.  Produced by BBC Cymru Wales for BBC One, the 50th anniversary will be written by Steven Moffat and Directed by Nick Hurran.

Filming for the 50th anniversary starts this week.  Meanwhile a brand new series starts on BBC ONE today (30 March) at 6:15pm for a run of eight epic episodes, which officially introduces the Doctor’s newest companion, Clara Oswald, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.

The first episode of Doctor Who, An Unearthly Child, starring William Hartnell as the Timelord, was broadcast on 23 November 1963.

As part of the anniversary events, the BBC will also broadcast An Adventure in Space and Time - a one-off drama looking at how the sci-fi show came to be made.

Personally, why bring Rose back? How many have they said there is no way back b etween universes since 2005? Ridiculous it is. Fine, bring previous incarnation of the Doctor back for these anniversary specials as it has become a bit of a tradition but not the companions unless it makes sense to do so and not just because. Is Moffat pandering to fandom after all?

You Will Sup-port E-qual Mar-riage

If you've been on Facebook at all today, you've almost certainly come across at least a handful of profile photos that have been changed to red blocks with a pink equal sign in the centre.

They're meant to express support for same-sex marriage as the Supreme Court in the USA hears two cases this week that could decide the fate of marriage equality for a generation. Most of these red blocks look like the one above, but the internet could not allow an image this simple to go viral without at least a little creative embellishment:

Frazer Hines - I want Doctor Who return

Frazer Hines has signalled his desire to reprise the Doctor Who-companion role he first played in the BBC’s flagship science-fiction drama series 47 years ago.

In an exclusive interview with Benjamin Cook for Doctor Who Magazine (DWM), Frazer Hines, now 68, explains how he’d like to join the Doctor (Matt Smith) and Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) in the TARDIS. Not only would he like to return to his role as the Doctor’s Scottish, kilt-wearing companion, Jamie McCrimmon, but he’d like to do so full-time. “Jamie would still work,” Hines insists to Cook. “They’ve got a young Doctor now [at 26, Smith was the youngest actor when cast], and a young female assistant; they need somebody [for] the grannies.”

In 1966, when Jamie joined the then TARDIS crew, Hines was a youthful-looking 22-year-old. Now 68, he’s retained his good looks and prides himself at still being fit and active – he recently represented England as part of its team in the Over 40s Cricket World Cup. “If I were old, and bald, and on a walking stick, there’s no way I’d think of coming back as Jamie,” he tells DWM. “But I’m still fit and healthy. I’ve got good legs. And I miss the show more than ever.” It’s no secret that Jamie’s Doctor – Patrick Troughton – is Smith’s favourite, who has to some extent modelled his Eleventh Doctor on him. Hines tells DWM that he’s aware that 1967’s The Tomb of the Cybermen – in which Hines and Troughton both appeared – is Smith’s all-time favourite Doctor Who story, adding: “I’m sure Matt would like to work with Patrick. Of course, he can’t [Troughton died in 1987]. Well, get his assistant back.”

With the late Patrick Troughton in the TARDIS

Jamie twice returned to the TV series: for the 20th-anniversary special, The Five Doctors (1983), and – when Troughton teamed up with one of his successors, Colin Baker’s Sixth Doctor – in The Two Doctors (1985). With a total of 116 episodes, to date, Hines holds the record of playing Doctor Who’s longest-serving companion.

Hines has obviously thought long and hard about returning to the show, and, according to DWM, regrets not suggesting it to the Doctor Who the person responsible for his return in the 1980s. “If I’d said to [Doctor Who producer] John Nathan-Turner, ‘You’ve got Peri and the Doctor, but you haven’t got a male companion. Why don’t I stay’ […] I’m sure he’d have said yes, because JN-T [as he was widely and affectionately known] was like that […] spur-of-the-moment.”

25th March 1920 - A Doctor Is Born

Toda , 25th March 1920, Patrick George Troughton was born at Mill Hill, Middlesex, England. Best known as portraying the second incarnation of the Doctor (aka 'Cosmic-Hobo'). Happens to be my birthday too!

Patrick died from a heart attack on 28th March 1987 a few days after appearing as a guest at the Magnum Opus Con II science fiction convention in Columbus, Georgia, USA, aged just 67.

His son David Troughton starred in 3 classic Doctor Who stories The Enemy of The world, (1967/8) The War Games (1969) and The Curse Of Peladon (1972).

No Captain Jack for the 50th

John Barrowman will not be involved in the 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who.

John tweeted confirmation, ending great speculation that he would be part of the cast following his hints that he was in discussions over something to do with the anniversary celebrations a few weeks ago.

I will not be involved in the 50th Anniversary Episode of Dr WHO. JB

So far no past Doctor Who cast members have been confirmed for the show, with most, including David Tennant, maintaining that they have not yet been contacted. David recently declared that he was fast giving up hope of appearing.

The 50th Anniversary episode starts filming in April. Current Doctor Matt Smith has said that he and new companion Jenna Louise Coleman will be appearing, but the only hint that he would give away about the plot was one word: "Paintings".

BBC Pointless: CelebritiesDoctor Who Special 7pm

Eight stars of the BBC-produced long-running science-fiction drama will take part this evening in the latest "celebrity version" of the popular series, Pointless.

Unlike the usual game-show formula, Pointless – the popular BBC television quiz show hosted by Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman – awards those contestants who finish the rounds with the lowest scores:

1. Basically, contestants are asked to give answers to questions that have previously been asked to one hundred members of the public; 2. where each has been given 100 seconds to give as many answers as possible to the question, rather than just one answer. 3. Only correct answers are considered and the aim of the show’s contestants is to find the answers thought of by the fewest surveyed people, rather than the greatest.
The four couples taking part in tonight's Pointless Celebrities are Bernard Cribbins and Jacqueline King, Nicola Bryant and Andrew Hayden-Smith, Sylvester McCoy (The Hobbit) and Sophie Aldred, and Louise Jameson and Frazer Hines.
During Doctor Who’s past five decades, Cribbins, Bryant, Aldred, Jameson and Hines have, at various times, all played TARDIS travelling companions to the Doctor. Hines was Jamie McCrimmon, a companion to Patrick Troughton’s Second Doctor. Appearing in Doctor Who from 1966–9, Hines still holds the record of being the longest-serving Doctor Who companion of all time. To date, in the TV series, Hines has reprised his role of Jamie on two separate occasions: for the 20th-anniversary special, The Five Doctors (1983), and – when Troughton met Colin Baker’s Sixth Doctor in 1985 – in The Two Doctors. Jameson played Leela, from 1977–8, opposite Fourth Doctor Tom Baker, while Bryant was the sidekick to, first, the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison, then Baker’s namesake, Colin, from 1984–5.
Team TARDIS Sophie Aldred played Ace (from 1987–9) alongside Sylvester McCoy’s Seventh Doctor. Theirs is the only Doctor–companion couple in this edition of Pointless. However, according to an article in Doctor Who Magazine (DWM), originally, Bryant was to pair with one of her Doctors – Colin Baker – for the show. In the event, as Bryant tells DWM, Baker couldn’t make it: “I was going to be with Colin [but] my man is in the jungle!” Pointless was being filmed at the same time that Baker was taking part in the ITV reality-show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. On this occasion, Hayden-Smith was drafted in from his alternate universe to pair with Bryant. In 2006 – when David Tennant (Broadchurch) was travelling in the TARDIS as the Tenth Doctor – the 29-year-old actor played Jake Simmonds, the freedom-fighter colleague to, and boyfriend of, parallel-universe companion Ricky Smith (Noel Clark). Cribbins and King also appeared in Doctor Who during Tennant’s tenure. They played father and daughter, Wilf and Sylvia Noble – a.k.a., grandfather and mother to Donna Noble, the companion played by Catherine Tate in the 2006 Christmas special, as well as the 2008 series, of Doctor Who.
PC Who Cribbins is the only Doctor Who alumni to have played two different Doctor Who companions – four decades apart! He was PC Tom Campbell in the 1966 Doctor Who movie Daleks – Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., when horror-film legend Peter Cushing played the Doctor; and Wilf Noble in Tennant’s swan-song episodes The End of Time (2009–10). Speaking to DWM earlier this month, Cribbins also revealed that he was once considered for the part of the Doctor, too! “I Did have an interview with Barry Letts the producer when [Jon] Pertwee was leaving ’cos they were looking for a new Doctor,” he said. In the event, the part of the Fourth Doctor went to Tom Baker. Pointless’s host, Alexander Armstrong, is no stranger to Doctor Who himself. He played Reg Arwell, the husband of the Doctor's companion, Madge Arwell (Claire Skinner), in the 2011 Christmas special, The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe and, from 2007–11, the voice of Mr Smith in the CBBC Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures, which starred the late Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith.

K9
K9

Finally, completing the PointlessDoctor Who contingent, the Doctor’s robot dog companion K9 will be assisting Richard Osman in his role as the show’s arbiter. Press the Red Button , ahead of transmission of the season's opening story, Steven Moffat's The Bells of Saint John, the BBC Red Button (Freeview Channel 301) will broadcast a prequel minisode – on Saturday, 23 March, at 5.15 p.m. “The Doctor takes a break on Earth, despondent that he can't find Clara,” the synopsis reads.
Doctor Who ittself will returns easter Saturday 30th March 2013 to a tele box near you, with eight brand-new episodes! Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman, respectively, return as the Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald for the run and in at least two specials later in the year: Moffat’s 50th-annivesary episode – to be broadcast on Saturday, 23 November 2013, exactly 50 years to the day since the very first episode An Unearthly Child was shown – and the 2013 Christmas story, which, as reported yesterday by Digital Journal, could be Smith's last. Details of these are being kept firmly under wraps. However, it is understood that the anniversary episode will begin filming in April and the Christmas one in September.
A one-off 90-minute drama telling the story of the early days of Doctor Who will also be broadcast later in 2013. An Adventure in Space and Time, by Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), will see Harry Potter’s David Bradley recreate Hartnell’s portrayal of the First Doctor, as well as playing the actor himself. Similarly, Reece Shearsmith (Psychoville) will play Patrick Troughton and his alter ego, the Second Doctor. Pointless Celebrities will air on BBC 1 this evening at 7 p.m.

Peter Jackson wants to direct 'Doctor Who': 'Pay me with a Dalek'

Peter Jackson Peter Jackson wants to direct an episode of Doctor Who. He revealed his desire to direct an episode back in the autumn of 2012 and is also a huge fan of Matt smith.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jackson disclosed that he met with Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat about overseeing a future instalment of the series.

"They don't even have to pay me," Jackson joked, adding: "I have got my eye on one of those nice new gold-coloured Daleks. They must have a spare one!"

Doctor Who producer Moffat remained coy on if Jackson could actually be paid with a Dalek, but did stress that he is open to working with the Oscar-winning director.

"We're theoretically on board for anything… provided we've got a great story," Moffat teased.
Jackson has spoken openly about his life-long love of Doctor Who throughout his career, and even cast former Doctor Sylvester McCoy as Radagast the Brown in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Matt Smith: I want to be Bond villain

Matt Smith has said that he doesn't believe he is "handsome enough" to portray James Bond himself, but that he would make a good villain.

"I'm not handsome enough to be James Bond," The Sun quotes him as saying. "Maybe a villain though. Start campaigning now. I don't think I could be James Bond though."

On the type of Bond baddie he would like, Smith referenced Daniel Craig's latest record-breaking instalment in the franchise.

"I'd edge on the camp dangerous side I think," he commented. "Javier Bardem was amazing. I thought Skyfall was a sumptuous film."

Daniel Craig as 007 agent James Bond

Smith also called the forthcoming Doctor Who series opener 'The Bells of Saint John' "a modern-day conspiracy thriller [that's] like Doctor Who meets Bourne meets Bond".

Doctor Who 50th Celebration Weekend announced for November

Doctor Who > 50 Years montage

To celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who, BBC Worldwide will bring thousands of the Time Lord’s fans together for a very special three-day event, across the anniversary weekend. The Doctor Who 50th Celebration Weekend will be held at ExCeL in London, beginning on Friday, 22 November, with tickets for over 15,000 fans.

More details about the Doctor Who 50th Celebration Weekend, including guests, intinerary, ticket prices and booking information will be revealed soon, alongside a host of other surprises. Fans should sign up to the doctorwho.tv newsletter to be the first to hear about plans for the celebration.

Saturday November 23, 2013 will mark 50 years to the day since the Doctor first appeared on British TV screens and since then his global appeal has continued to grow, with viewers across generations in over 200 territories around the world and over 3 million Facebook fans.

Throughout the year, Doctor Who fans across all of space and time will be able to join in the celebrations closer to home. BBC America are marking the anniversary with a number of original programme commissions which will look back at the Doctor throughout the years. The programmes will focus on a different Doctor each month in chronological order, and kicked off with William Hartnell’s Doctor in January before culminating with the current Doctor, played by Matt Smith in November. The programmes will also be made available internationally.

In New Zealand, BBC Worldwide Australasia has collaborated with the New Zealand Mint to produce a Doctor Who commemorative coin featuring the TARDIS which will be classified as legal tender to the value of $2(NZD).

A huge range of new products will also be released throughout 2013. A set of 11 celebratory Doctor Who stamps will be available to purchase from March 26 and Harlequin Goldsmiths has created a collection of Limited Edition Sterling silver and 9ct gold statuaries, together with a range of jewellery for both ladies and gentlemen.

Amanda Hill, Chief Brands Officer at BBC Worldwide said: “Generations of fans young and old have been captivated by the Doctor and we’ve seen Doctor Who go from strength to strength, enjoying something of a global march over the past few years attracting new followers from Turkey to Brazil to South Korea. This year long celebration is an opportunity for fans around the world to come together and celebrate the glorious past, present and future of Doctor Who.”

Peter Davison for Doctor Who 50th talks

Peter Davison has confirmed that he is due to enter talks about Doctor Who's 50th anniversary.

However, the actor - who played the Fifth Doctor from 1981 to 1984 - claimed at fan convention MystiCon that he does not expect to play a role in the celebratory 3D special airing later this year

"I've got a meeting with the head of BBC Wales... to go through various things the BBC have got planned," Davison said. "I don't think she's going to offer me a part in it... I might be wrong."

He added: "I honestly don't know very much. I know that Steven Moffat will have something planned. I don't think it will involve the older Doctors, certainly in their present form, because of course we're meant to look exactly as we did when we left the TARDIS and none of us really do."

Davison suggested that the 50th special - to be directed by Nick Hurran - is more likely to incorporate past Doctors through the use of archive footage.

"I think we'll be featured somewhere but I should think it's probably footage lifted from older Doctor stories," he said. "I don't know [for sure]."

The Doctor Returns In 'The Bells Of St John’s' On March 30th

Doctor Who is to return to BBC One on 30 March in a modern day urban thriller announced today as 'The Bells of St John', as the first official image is revealed giving fans a sneak peak at what to expect from the epic new series.

Written by Steven Moffat, 'The Bells of St John' will mark the official introduction of the Doctor's newest companion, Clara Oswald, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.  Having already made two appearances last year, the opening episode will be the first time fans get to see the Clara that will accompany the Doctor across the series' eight adventures.

Set in London against the backdrop of new and old iconic landmarks, The Shard and Westminster Bridge, 'The Bells of St John' will also establish a new nemesis, the Spoonheads, who will battle the Doctor as he discovers something sinister is lurking in the Wi-Fi.
Steven Moffat, executive producer and lead writer, said:

"It's the 50th year of Doctor Who and look what's going on! We're up in the sky and under the sea! We're running round the rings of an alien world and then a haunted house. There's new Cybermen, new Ice Warriors and a never before attempted journey to the centre of the TARDIS. And in the finale, the Doctor's greatest secret will at last be revealed!  If this wasn't already our most exciting year it would be anyway!"

Featuring a movie a week from a ghost story to an underwater siege to a period drama, the new series will also introduce new monsters, as well as bringing back fan favourites the Ice Warriors and Cybermen.

Meanwhile the series' stellar list of guest stars include: Celia Imrie; Warwick Davis, Jessica Raine; Dougray Scott and Tamzin Outhwaite, as well as for the first time on screen together, mother and daughter Dame Diana Rigg and Rachael Stirling.
