Updated Logo For asylum Of The Daleks

The official Doctor Who site has updated their logo ready for the new series on BBC One & BBC ONE HD which airs at 19:20

Here’s what to expect for Series 33 (7)

The new intro starts the same with the TARDIS flying through the vortex. However, the vortex is a different colour. It now has more of a green tint to it (like in Pond Life).

The first really noticeable change is the cast credits. The font is completely different and they are now plain white. The way they transition in and out has also changed. They no longer “whoosh” in, it’s more of a ripple effect.

The other big change is the actual “Doctor Who” title. This is specifically themed to each episode. The “DW” TARDIS icon has now been removed. The Doctor Who part now fades into the TARDIS icon and then it spins like usual.

The final change is the “Written by” credit which is now black text."

Classic Monster Set To Return To The World Of WHO....

Matt Smith has hinted that a monster from the classic series could soon return.

The actor told TV Choice that an enemy from the show's original 1963-1989 run might make an appearance in a future episode.

"Perhaps there are some classic monsters coming back," he teased. "There's one I'm very intrigued by, which we haven't seen for quite some time."

Quizzed about the returning threat, Smith clarified: "It's a thing we haven't seen since the series returned to our screens in 2005."

Creation Of The Weeping Angels

Pond Life

Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as the Ponds (© BBC)

Pond Life is the new mini-adventure featuring the Doctor, Amy, Rory and some surprise familiar faces! It picks up the story of the Ponds and follows their lives in the way that only Doctor Who can, culminating in a cliff-hanger that leads us into Asylum of the Daleks.

Directed by Saul Metzstein (Dinosaurs on Spaceship/A Town Called Mercy), the first part of Pond Life will premiere on this site at noon on Monday (27 August). Part 2 – 5 will be released daily at noon throughout the rest of the week and the omnibus edition will be available online and on the BBC’s Red Button on Saturday, 1 September – the day that the new series returns with Asylum of the Daleks!
Pond Life’s writer, Chris Chibnall (42, The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood) commented, ‘It opens with the Ponds at home and gives us an insight in to just what happens when the Doctor drops in and out of their lives,’ and  Caroline Skinner, Executive Producer, described it as ‘beautiful, heartfelt and wickedly funny… a truly heart-warming piece about our best-loved companions and their madcap relationship with their raggedy Doctor.

Matt Smith Will Play The Doctor Until 2014

Matt Smith has revealed that he will carry on playing Doctor Who until at least 2014.

The actor is already working on shows for next year’s series and has described the concept behind future episodes as “brilliant”, even though show boss Steven Moffat hasn’t written them yet.

Digital Spy reports Matt as saying: “It hasn’t been written yet but the idea is as brilliant and as mental as you’d expect from Steven. So there’s a lot to look forward to.

“When Steven was going to pitch the next season to me not long ago, he said, ‘Are you ready to cry?’ ” Matt, who returns to our screens in the autumn, added that he’s looking forward to the Doctor’s 50th anniversary celebrations next year.

“We want to do 50 years — and everyone that’s been associated with the show — justice. We want to go, ‘Look, world, here is Doctor Who. It’s 50 years old, a science-fiction show, still going and going from strength to strength’.

“Steven will do something brilliant. He’ll do something grand or maybe something very simple but he’ll come to it as a fan. He’ll go, ‘What would I want to see?’”

Despite his success in the role, he added that the Time Lord’s shoes weren’t necessarily easy to fill. He said: “If you remember, when I took over, no one thought it would work. I was ‘too young’. David (Tennant) had come from a stellar era. I was unknown.

“For a month or two when I started I was like, ‘This is impossible. I can’t’ — just the pressure of it. Everyone was sort of going, ‘Go on, show us what you’ve got.’ I told myself, ‘If I can get through this I can get through anything’.”

Sadly, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill (who play Amy Pond and Rory Williams-Pond), are both leaving the sci-fi drama in the fifth episode of the new series.

Mark Gatiss to script drama about the creation of Doctor Who

The 50th anniversary of Doctor Who will be marked by BBC2 next year with a drama chronicling the beginnings of the show, scripted by Sherlock co-writer Mark Gatiss.

An Adventure in Time and Space – the original subtitle to the show which began on 23 November 1963 starring William Hartnell – will be executive produced by Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, who works with Gatiss on Sherlock, and BBC Wales' Caroline Skinner.

Gatiss said: "This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original.

"And how an actor – William Hartnell – stereotyped in hard-man roles became a hero to millions of children.

"I've wanted to tell this story this for more years than I can remember. To make it happen for Doctor Who's 50th birthday is quite simply a dream come true."

It is not the first time the BBC has used the beginnings of a long-running drama for inspiration, BBC4 winning plaudits for its Bafta-winning The Road to Coronation Street, starring Jessie Wallace and Jane Horrocks and produced by ITV.

The BBC said the Doctor Who drama would explore all aspects of the longest running science fiction series to date, looking at the many personalities involved in bringing the series to life.
