Meet the 13th Doctor's new friends!
Yasmin (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole), and Graham (Bradley Walsh). 

When Jodie Whittaker takes over as the Thirteenth Doctor on the global hit show next year, she will be joined by an all new regular cast.

BBC announces today (October 10, 2017) that Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill will line-up as the new regular cast on Doctor Who.

Bradley will star as Graham, Tosin will play Ryan and Mandip will play Yasmin.

Also joining the series in a returning role is Sharon D Clarke.

New head writer and executive producer Chris Chibnall, who made the decision to cast the first ever woman in the iconic role, is also shaking up who will travel with the Doctor in the TARDIS, with a team of new characters.

In more exclusive news, it is confirmed that the new series will be a ten week run of fifty minute episodes in Autumn 2018, kicking off with a feature length hour for the opening launch.

Chris Chibnall says : “The new Doctor is going to need new friends. We’re thrilled to welcome Mandip, Tosin and Bradley to the Doctor Who family. They’re three of Britain’s brightest talents and we can’t wait to see them dive into brand new adventures with Jodie’s Doctor. Alongside them, we’re delighted that Sharon D Clarke is also joining the show."

Jodie Whittaker says : "I am so excited to share this huge adventure with Mandip, Tosin and Bradley. It's a dream team!"

Bradley Walsh says : “I remember watching William Hartnell as the first Doctor. Black and white made it very scary for a youngster like myself. I was petrified but even though I’d watch most of it from behind the sofa through my fingers, I became a fan. I then queued up for ages to get into the Carlton picture house in Watford to watch the great Peter Cushing appear as the Doctor in a full length feature film made in glorious colour. Am I thrilled to be part of this whole ground breaking new dawn for the Doctor?? Oh yes!”

Mandip Gill says : “I am over the moon to be joining the Doctor Who family. This is an iconic show with an amazing fanbase and I look forward to everything that brings. Certain roles seem unattainable and this is one of those, so much so I didn't believe it to be true for the first few weeks. To be working alongside the likes of Jodie, Bradley and my old friend Tosin is thrilling. This show is worlds away from the work I've done previously and that's the part that excites me the most.”

Tosin Cole says : "I'm grateful and excited to be a part of this journey with the team. I'm looking forward to jumping in this Doctor Who universe."

Matt Strevens, Executive Producer, BBC Studios says : “I am thrilled to welcome Bradley, Mandip and Tosin to the new Who family. Working with three such talented actors is going to be a lot of fun. The Doctor is in fine company.”

This Morning's Ruth Langsford's mix up with Jodie Whittaker

The first female Time Lord has been wandering around the ITV studios today, following her interview with Christine Lampard on Lorraine. However, in a hilarious blunder, Ruth Langsford thought the 35-year-old actress was This Morning’s new resident doctor.
 
Recalling her epic fail with viewers, Ruth giggled: “You know when you know someone but you can’t place them? I say good morning to everybody, because I’m very friendly.”
She continued: “This morning, I said good morning to this one lady and went, ‘I know you. Where do I know you from?' And she just smiled and looked a little sheepish. And she said, ‘Yeah, you might’.”

Special new Doctor Who footage to be released this weekend

Doctor Who fans are in for a treat this Sunday, 23rd July 2017, a preview of the Christmas episode will be shown at the San Diego Comic-Con.

  

Episode director Rachel Talalay has shed some more light on what fans can expect from the event, suggesting that the 'sneak-peak' will be comprised of a teaser trailer or fottage from the as yet unnamed special. And in more good news, Talalay suggested that the footage would be released online after the panel – not always a guarantee at San Diego Comic-con, as proven when the trailer from 2013 50^th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor was withheld from non-attendees.

 

Tributes paid to former Doctor Who companion Deborah Watling, who has died aged 69

TRIBUTES have been paid to former Doctor Who companion Deborah Watling, who has died following a short battle with cancer, aged 69. 

 

The actress was best known for her role as Victoria Waterfield – the companion of second doctor Patrick Troughton in the BBC’s long-running sci-fi series Doctor Who. 

Deborah, who lived in Thorpe-le-Soken with husband Steve Turner, was diagnosed with lung cancer just six weeks ago. She passed away on Friday. 

She was the daughter of 1940s and 50s film star Jack Watling and actress Patricia Hicks and sister of actress Dilys Watling and Clacton MP Giles Watling. 

“She was bubbly, vivacious, with a great sense of humour," said Giles. 

“We grew up together – she was ahead of me in the acting game. She had a great career. 

“We toured together all over the country and shared digs – we had a wonderful life. 

“She lived quietly in Thorpe-le-Soken for a few years, but that didn’t stop her from travelling to Doctor Who conventions all over the world. 

“She was supposed to be going to New Zealand, but was too poorly.

“In the last week she moved into Beaumont Manor nursing home. She passed away peacefully.”

13th Doctor Jodie Whittaker: “I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender”

Doctor Who’s new leading lady Jodie Whittaker wants to assure fans of the beloved sci-fi series that there’s nothing to fear when she takes over the Tardis as the first female Doctor.

“I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender” said Whittaker. Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that’s exciting about change. The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one.”

The actress, best known to UK TV viewers as Danny Latimer’s mum, Beth, from Chris Chibnall’s Broadchurch – which also stared Tenth Doctor David Tennant – said she didn’t need any convincing when it came to the role. 

“There was no persuasion needed. If you need to be persuaded to do this part, you’re not right

for this part, and the part isn’t right for you. I also think, for anyone taking this on, you have to want to fight for it, which I certainly had to do. I know there will have been some phenomenal actors who threw their hats in the ring.”

She's particularly pleased to become the first female Doctor and mark such a milestone in Doctor Who history.

"It feels completely overwhelming, as a feminist, as a woman, as an actor, as a human, as someone who wants to continually push themselves and challenge themselves, and not be boxed in by what you’re told you can and can’t be. It feels incredible."

Broadchurch star Jodie Whittaker has been revelaed as the Thirteenth incranation of the Time Lord. The actress will be the first woman to play the Doctor, and will take over from Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capald when he regenerates in this year's Christmas special.

The announcement was made on BBC One following Roger Federer’s win over Marin Cilic in the Wimbledon men’s final.
