Barrowman to write 'Torchwood' comic

http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2008/02/torchwood_450x350.jpg
John Barrowman is to write an original comic strip for the March issue of the official Torchwood Magazine. The actor, who plays Captain Jack Harkness in the Doctor Who spinoff, will pen 'Captain Jack and the Selkie' with his sister Carole E. Barrowman and editor Martin Eden.

Eden said: "I'm so excited to be working on this story. John and Carole are an absolute pleasure to work with. Believe me, the readers are in for a treat!"

Carole revealed that the project has been on her and John's agenda for some time, saying:

"When John and I were working on [John's autobiography] Anything Goes, we spent a lot of time together on the Torchwood set.

"In between our storytelling and moments of inspired silliness, we decided we'd like to work on a project together that involved Captain Jack."

Frazer Hines Keen For Return

In an interview with DWM this month, Frazer Hines - one time companion to Patrick Troughton's Doctor. He returned to the show for the 20th anniversary special The Five Doctors, and again in 1985's The Two Doctors, again at the second Doctor's side and the sixth (Colin Baker) with his companion Peri (Nicola bryant), has told of his longing to return to the Whoniverse:

"I just hope I get a call from the new Doctor Who producers, inviting me back. If Sarah Jane can do it, why can't Jamie?"

"They've got a young male Doctor now, and a young female assistant, so they need somebody like me for the grannies and the housewives!"

Of interest, the character of Jamie was the longest running male companion of the show. Though much of his work on Doctor Who has been lost, he appeared in more episodes than any other actor, save for those playing the first four Doctors. In terms of screen-time, he is easily the longest-serving co-star, although Nicholas Courtney appeared regularly over a greater number of years. This phenomenon is due to the fact that during the 1960s, the show had a much higher episode count than in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Return of Susan

Christian Cawley (kasterborous.com)

Now this is what I call a comeback - Carole Ann Ford is returning to the world of Doctor Who in a brand new story opposite Paul McGann, in An Earthly Child.

It seems that that the couple of Companion Tales that Ms Ford took part in have whetted her appetite for something new, and who better than the Eighth Doctor to find himself on 22nd century Earth and face to face with this granddaughter... and great grandson?!

The cast also stars Leslie Ash (Men Behaving Badly) as Marion Fleming and Ian Hallard as Duncan, not to mention Jake McGann as the Doctor's great grandson Alex. Jake McGann is of course the real-life son of Eighth Doctor Paul McGann.

From the Big Finish website:

Paul McGann was just thrilled to be working on this episode he absolutely embraced the exploration of Doctor Who's own mythology, and Jake was just perfect in the role of Alex. It was also lovely to work with Carole again the scenes between the Doctor and Susan will, I have no doubt, bring a tear or two to the eyes of listeners.

An Earthly Child will be released by Big Finish to subscribers of their Doctor Who range as a free gift in December 2009, and as ever there are more details at the Big Finish website
