200th Main Range Doctor Who Audio Release by Big Finish

The Countdown to 200 has begun - Doctor Who: The Secret History launches Wednesday the 17th of June!

Fifth Doctor adventure The Secret History marks the 200th main range Doctor Who release by Big Finish Productions. Written by Eddie Robson is Big Finish's 200th story in its Doctor Who Main Range, which started back in 1999. The cover is designed by Tom Webster.

Synopsis

After two recent adventures which saw the Doctor's timeline being manipulated, bringing him back in time to meet old friends in dangerous new situations, his Fifth incarnation arrives in 6th century Constantinople with companions Vicki (Maureen O'Brien) and Steven (Peter Purves), to find out what's at the heart of the Secret History...

The TARDIS brings the Doctor, Steven and Vicki to the Italian city of Ravenna in the year 540 – besieged by the army of the celebrated Byzantine general Belisarius. Caught up in the fighting, Steven ends up on a boat bound for Constantinople, the heart of the Roman Empire.

Rescuing Steven, however, is the least of the Doctor's problems – because he shouldn't be mixed up in this particular adventure at all. Someone has sabotaged his own personal timeline, putting him in the place of his First incarnation... but who, and why? The truth is about to be revealed – but at what cost to all of the Doctors, and to the whole future history of the planet Earth?

Joivan Wade Returns as Rigsy

Filming has begun on episode 10 of the new series of Doctor Who and Joivan Wade, who played Rigsy in last year’s Flatline, is back! The episode is directed by Justin Molotnikov and written by Sarah Dollard whose previous credits include Being Human and the BBC’s acclaimed spy drama, The Game.

Sarah commented, ‘Getting to play in the Doctor Who toy box is a dream come true. It’s a total honour to contribute to a show that has brought me such joy as a fan. However, writing for Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman has presented a serious problem: some days I've been too excited to actually sit down and type!’

Watch an interview with Sarah Dollard about writing series 9, episode 10.
The episode sees the return of Joivan Wade as Rigsy, the young graffiti artist who helped save the world in Flatline. He’ll be reunited with the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara (Jenna Coleman) in this new adventure although how and why he finds himself mixed up with the time traveling heroes is currently under wraps!

The guest cast for the new series includes Maisie Williams, Michelle Gomez, Rebecca Front, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye and Jaye Griffiths.

The BBC Cymru Wales produced drama will return to BBC One this Autumn with further casting to be announced.

Russell T. Davies wants Steven Moffat to bring back River Song

Image result for river song While a lot of us may all be sitting here, wistfully hoping Steven Moffat is not entirely done with River Song — actress Alex Kingston recently said her story wasn’t over yet — the Doctor Who showrunner has admitted he had some reservations about the Doctor’s wife spending more time with our beloved Time Lord. Nonetheless, the Moff doesn’t rule out her return to the BBC series. At least, if it's done right:

"It entirely depends on whether we've got a good story. It's certainly not ruled out. I have a sort of worry about keeping anybody around in the Doctor's life for too long. Because he's the Man who Leaves. He's the man who outlives everybody: that's his story. In the end it's the boy in his box, and he's alone. In the end if we had a great story, we'd do it."
Could the man for the job be former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies? He really seems to be keen on seeing River with Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth incarnation of the Doctor, although he's currently busy with Channel 4’s drama series Cucumber, a show that is "really, really about sex" (Davies’ words, not mine). Here’s what Steven Moffat recently revealed about an interesting chat he had with Davies, who said a pairing between Alex Kingston and Peter Capaldi would be a "sex storm":
"I mentioned in passing to Russell that we were probably done with River.  He said, 'You can't be done with River! No, no, no. Capaldi and Kingston, it's a sex storm!' So if you see an episode called Sex Storm by Russell T Davies in his post-Cucumber years... [there will be] lots of editing from me saying 'We really can't do that, you've forgotten which show this is….'"
Russell T Davies told Steven Moffat to bring back River Song: 'Capaldi and Kingston is a sex storm!'

The last time we saw River Song, was in "The Name of the Doctor," in which Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor seemingly said goodbye forever (well, for Eleven, it probably was forever ...) to his wife’s digitally preserved consciousness. But hey, Doctor Who is all about time travel, is it not? What do you guys think about Russell T. Davies' argument to Steven Moffat for bringing back the woman formerly known as Melody Pond?

Steven Moffat to stay until series 10

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat will officially stay with the show until series 10, at least.

Image result for steven moffatThe news of his contract extension came at an event in New York, where he simply said he had 'just signed up for another year.'

Of course, there will be those who take this news negatively, but it's impossible to deny Moffat's role in securing the future of Doctor Who.
