A large dark region on the moon, Charon, has been dubbed Gallifrey Macula, after the Doctor’s fictional home planet. And a neighbouring rift is now called Tardis Chasma by the team that sent their robotic probe flying past Pluto on 14 July

Christopher Eccleston on leaving Doctor Who: "I'm always there in spirit"

He may have been fffantastic, but he was very short lived. Christopher Eccleston used an appearance on Radio 4’s Loose Ends to reflect on his brief tenure at the head of the rebooted Doctor Who, hinting at why he left after only one series but pointing out that his Doctor paved the way for future incarnations.

“I don’t think it’s important that I left. I think it's important that I did it in the first place,” he told the show. “I'm still there: I was in David Tennant, I was in Matt Smith, I was in Peter Capaldi. I'm always there in spirit."

As always, Eccleston wouldn’t be nailed down on why exactly he left (“they're not here to say their side of it so I'm not going into detail") but explained "Myself and three individuals at the very top of the pyramid clashed so off I went.”

The comments are consistent with earlier remarks the actor has made about his departure. In 2010, he told Radio Times: "I didn't enjoy the environment and the culture that we, the cast and crew, had to work in. I wasn't comfortable. I thought, 'If I stay in this job, I'm going to have to blind myself to certain things I thought were wrong.' So I left."

Nevertheless, Eccleston was keen to spotlight the good times, even if there were a few things he would do differently.

"I think I over-pitched the comedy,” he explained. “If I had my time again, I would do the comedy very different – but I think where I did possibly succeed was in the tortured stuff – surprise surprise!"

Peter Capaldi seriously hints that Clara Oswald is going to be KILLED OFF!

According to an article in The Daily Mirror, Peter Capaldi has hinted that his co-star's character Clara Oswald (played by Jenna Coleman), will be killed off in the new series.

Peter revealed to Doctor Who News: "The thing that is tricky about the Doctor and his relationship with companions. You know, Christopher Eccleston said in his first episode, 'I can see… everything. All there has ever been and all there ever will be. And that drives me mad'.

"So in a way, the Doctor knows the fate of all of his companions. That makes it… difficult. But [with Clara] he is deliberately enjoying the relationship and this great toy box of time and space that they can explore together. But of course, as it’s Doctor Who, there is an ever deepening shadow pursuing them.”

Twitter was sent into a frenzy by the comments, with Doctor Who fans desperately speculating over whether the actor was suggesting Clara will be killed off.

Jenna, who plays Clara, wanted to leave the show last year but decided to stay saying "Clara had unfinished business with the Doctor".

For me, I have enjoyed Jenna's portrayal of Clara Oswald and I will miss the character when she finally does leave, which will most likely will be this new series. In fact, Clara has been my favourite companion to the Doctor since the series returned in March 2005.

Peter Capaldi tease the possible return of Gallifrey

Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi, Michelle Gomez - Missy, aka the Master, and Doctor Who showrunner Moffat offered up some interesting tidbits to io9 during San Diego Comic-Con concerning the Time Lord's homeworld ... Gallifrey. Could we see its return in Series 35 or 36?

Image result for peter capaldi san diego comic conIt was revealed in the 2013 50th anniversary that Gallifrey is safe and in a pocket universe, thanks to the Doctor (in all his regenerations).

During the carpet interview, Capaldi talked about how determined the Doctor actually is to find his homeworld and said:

"I think he does absolutely want to find Gallifrey. It’s a duty. In some ways, the Doctor is quite an old-fashioned character. He does have a recognition of duties and loyalties, but these are things that are deep-set in him. I don’t think he’ll ever feel satisfied that Gallifrey is safe until he finds it. And of course, he is still riven with guilt about what he’s put Gallifrey through."

Torchwood: Ianto Jones will return in October

Big Finish are delighted to announce that fan-favourite actor Gareth David-Lloyd will star as Ianto Jones for the second release in our new series of Torchwood Audio Dramas.
Ianto Jones will return in Torchwood: Fall to Earth
Gareth appeared throughout the first three series of the popular BBC show created by Russell T Davies. A mild-mannered administrator for the Torchwood team, Ianto helped defend Cardiff from the horrors of the rift, and aided the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) in a battle against the Daleks in two episodes of Doctor Who.

Ianto made his final TV appearance in the 2009 mini-series Children of Earth, but his popularity and legacy has stood the test of time, with a special commemorative memorial for the character erected in Cardiff Bay.

“Well, how could we not?” says producer James Goss. “Ianto's such a brilliant character, and if we kept people on tenterhooks any longer, we'd be fools. Of course he's in it and as soon as possible. We recorded with him literally the first day after he finished a theatre tour. Did he want to put his feet up? Nope. He wanted to be Ianto.”

Gareth will return in Torchwood: Fall to Earth, where the team's ongoing investigation into a worldwide conspiracy places Ianto on the first privately-funded spaceflight; just as it's plunging out of the sky! The new release follows on from John Barrowman's return as Captain Jack Harkness in the opening instalment, Torchwood: The Conspiracy.

“Seeing Gareth in studio was an absolute delight,” glowed director Scott Handcock. “He clearly loves the part and had a great time. And can't wait to be back.”
The new story will be released in October, allowing for an unbroken run of stories from September. Four more releases will follow at monthly intervals into 2016.

“There was originally going to be a gap after the first release,” explains James, “but we soon realised that everyone we spoke to was being so helpful, we'd be in studio a lot earlier. Actors, writers, agents, BBC Worldwide have all been amazing - 'Well, since it's Torchwood' everyone kept saying. So it's coming out early. Since it's Torchwood

How Old Is The Doctor?

Here is just a fun video from Tardis Archives who has tried to work out just how old the Doctor really is. IS he right? I do not think we will ever truly know. Do we want to?

BBC Doctor Who Series 35(9) Trailer & Stills

The BBC have released the first trailer for the upcoming Series 35 of Doctor Who. This will be Peter Capaldi's second year in the role as our favourite anti-hero The Doctor. The new series will hit our screens on Saturday, 19th September. Time to be confirmed.

The Doctor's opening words:

"Every time I think it couldn’t get any more extraordinary it surprises me. It’s impossible, I hate it, it’s evil, it’s astonishing… I want to kiss it to death!"

The Doctor and Clara are having the time of their lives travelling through time and space, , the pair meet new and old monsters, and go on a journey that takes them to deadly alien planets, creepy underwater bases, Vikings villages, a global Zygon uprising, and leads them through hidden alien dens, to the very end of time itself.
Meeting monsters old and new the Doctor will come face to face with Missy (played by Michelle Gomez), a city of Daleks, deadly mercenaries called the Mire, terrifying ghosts and far more.

The trailer does throw up a few intriguing questions as to who is the character played by Maisie Williams (Game Of Thrones), and how does she know him?

"What took you so long? Old Man?"

Having filmed in Cardiff since January, Peter Capaldi said:
“Soaring through all of time and space, series nine sees the Doctor throw himself into life with a new hunger for adventure. The Cosmos is there for the taking, thrilling, epic and enticing, and his to play in. But he’s almost reckless in his abandon. It’s almost like he’s running from something, something that if it ever catches him will turn his life upside down.”

"I'm The Doctor and I save people!"

Just what is Clara hiding from?

Another outing for the orange spacesuits

Two faced alien being is one of the new alen species we get to encounter

And a scary looking guy with a sinister face, black hat and a purposeful walk. A walk that suggests he’s up to no good and he’s up to it with some urgency

An unusual looking figure the Doctor comes face-to-face with. How does he fit in with the new series?

A hand rising from the earth. Scary.

We already knew that Missy was returning and it looks like she’s facing-off with Clara. Given that the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Evil’ was responsible for the death of Clara’s boyfriend Danny in the Series 8 finale.

Is that fear we can see in her eyes? And if so, what on Earth – or wherever – can scare Missy?

Just in case the Zygons weren’t evil enough (in the past they’ve tried to steal our planet and they were very mean to Clara) they’re now picking on small children. Thank goodness Osgood will be there for their adventure, but hold on… No Osgood in the trailer. Could that be significant?

Face to face with the Doctor: "What took you so long? Old Man?" Just what is the connection between Maisie Williams' character and the Doctor? We will find out in the Autumn.

EW: Interview: Peter Capaldi: The Doctor Has A Newfound Hunger For Adventure

Chatting to Entertainment Weekly,  Peter Capaldi has been discussing Series 9 of Doctor Who. In the  interview, he mentioned that “The Doctor is throwing himself into life with a newfound hunger for adventure” in the new episodes.

Image from S9 Ep 01 The Magician's Apprentice

“He’s in pursuit of joy and grabbing every thrill that he can along the way. But I sense him running from something, that even he does not yet understand,” he added. According to Capaldi, this search for adventure extends to Jenna Coleman’s Clara, too:

They’ve suddenly realized that they are the most fortunate people in all of time and space and are hell-bent on adventure. Jenna continues to deliver a beautifully nuanced, complex, and funny performance that marks her out as one of the best companions ever.” He also described guest star Maisie Williams as “a sharp, talented tornado” who “shifts in cosmic ways.”

There is an epic sweep to this season and I think the villains and monsters reflect that,” Mr Capaldi also mentioned. “Great new ones, brilliant old ones and some very scary creatures looming in stories with real emotional ambition.”

Along with these teases, Capaldi also described this new picture from the show. He said that “the photo shows the Doctor about to make a mistake that has cataclysmic repercussions”…

Series 9: Director Rachel Talalay on this year's "completely different" finale

Rachel Talalay who directed series eight's two-part finale Dark Water and Death In Heaven, is back to direct the series nine climactic two-parter written by Doctor Who Producr Steven Moffat.

"These episodes are completely different to what I did last year. Episode 11 is one of the most complicated and different that I've ever done. It just has my head in spaghetti"
