Billie Piper's comeback to Doctor Who had fans mouthing off - about her character Rose Tyler's upmarket lisping voice.

The BBC and websites on the series were also inundated with queries as to whether she was wearing a brace or false teeth or had just had dental treatment.

A baffled reviewer of Saturday's show, which had an audience of seven million, even hinted at "an alien experiment involving ex-boxer Chris Eubank".

Other critics referred to "chavette tones", "mouth numbed with anaesthetic" and a "speech impediment".
