Return of the Black Guardian

The Black Guardian is BACK! First appeared back in 1979's "Key To Time" - ' The Armageddon Factor' and returned in 1983's 'Enlightenment'. Originally portrayed by Valentine Dyall, this new incarnation will be played by David Troughton (Midnight), for the forthcoming Key 2 Time season audio adventures (Peter Davison 2009 release).

Big Finish have revealed that the opening story The Judgement of Isskar guest stars Raquel Cassidy (Lead Balloon, Party Animals, Teachers) as Lady Mesca. The climatic story The Chaos Pool, which is written by Peter Anghelides, also sees the return of Lalla Ward to the audio series.

The Black Guardian is an anthropomorphic personification of the forces of entropy and chaos, the counterpart of the White Guardian, a personification of order. The two Guardians balance out the forces in the universe, although the Black Guardian seems to desire to upset the balance in favour of chaos and evil while the White Guardian prefers to maintain the status quo. The Guardians both appeared in Season 16 of the programme, where all six serials of that season were linked together in the quest for the Key to Time, an artefact of immense power that would give the wielder supreme power over all existence.

The Key 2 Time Mini series - January 2009

The Key 2 Time, a three-story mini series, is set for release between January and March 2009 as part of Big Finish’s main Doctor Who audio adventures range.

Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor will be joined by new companion Amy, one of two sentient humanoid ‘Tracers’, created to find the six segments of the Key. Ciara Janson (Nicole Owen in Hollyoaks and voices the new animated Famous Five) plays Amy, while the role of her twin sister Zara is portrayed by Laura Doddington, who was recently seen as PC Wood in Prime Suspect: The Final Act. The Key 2 Time, sees the Fifth Doctor on a new hunt for the six segments of the all powerful Key, but this time his task might not be quite as easy as it was the first time around…
